Bulk Opah
Bulk Opah (Lampris guttatus) is specifically packaged and priced for buyers who move large quantities of seafood – whether for redistribution, further processing, or high‑turnover foodservice operations. Rather than individual retail packs or premium graded boxes, our bulk offering delivers the same deep‑sea quality in a no‑frills, functional format that prioritises volume and value.
Each fish is harvested from temperate oceanic waters, where Opah grow to substantial size with a characteristic pink‑red, marbled flesh. Immediately after landing, the catch is gutted, thoroughly rinsed, and size‑sorted. The fish are then rapidly frozen using standard blast‑freezing technology, which preserves their intact flesh texture and genuine rich sea flavour. Unlike delicate white fish, Opah's dense muscle structure responds well to freezing, maintaining its steak‑like bite and subtle sweetness even after extended storage. Nutritionally, bulk Opah is loaded with natural elements beneficial to daily diet – high‑quality protein, omega‑3 fatty acids, vitamin D, B12, selenium, and phosphorus – all of which remain stable through the freezing process. To safeguard fresh quality throughout storage and delivery, strict low‑temperature preservation is maintained from the moment of freezing until the cartons reach your warehouse. Our cold chain is monitored with digital data loggers that record temperature at every transfer point. Bulk Opah is typically packed in sturdy 20‑kg cartons, with fish arranged in flat layers separated by polyethylene sheets to prevent sticking. This packaging allows easy palletisation and maximises container utilisation, reducing shipping costs per kilogram.

FAQ
FAQ
01.What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for bulk Opah?
Our standard MOQ is one full pallet, which typically holds 40 cartons of 20 kg each (800 kg total). For new buyers, we can accommodate trial orders of half a pallet (400 kg) to test quality and logistics. Larger contract volumes are eligible for tiered pricing discounts..
02.How are the fish arranged inside the bulk cartons to prevent damage during transit?
Each 20‑kg carton contains Opah of uniform size, laid flat in layers with food‑grade interleaving sheets between each layer. The cartons are double‑walled for crush resistance and sealed with reinforced tape. Pallets are stretch‑wrapped and banded to keep stacks stable during container shipping. This arrangement minimises friction and pressure damage, ensuring that the fish arrive with their skin and flesh intact.
03.How do you guarantee consistent quality across thousands of fish in a bulk shipment?
We implement a lot‑based quality system. Every production batch is sampled at multiple points – before freezing, after freezing, and at final packing – for visual appearance, odour, and texture. We also conduct histamine and microbiological tests per batch. A Certificate of Analysis is provided with each shipment. If any carton fails to meet our internal standards upon arrival (verified with photographic evidence), we offer replacement or credit as per our quality guarantee terms.
04.Can bulk Opah be repacked into smaller retail portions without thawing the entire carton?
Yes, but with care. The recommended method is to partially thaw the carton in a cold room (0‑4°C) for 2‑3 hours until the fish can be separated, then repack the required number into vacuum bags or portion trays and refreeze them immediately. The remaining fish should be quickly returned to the freezer. We also offer a service to pre‑portion bulk Opah into smaller consumer packs (e.g., 500 g, 1 kg) with custom labelling – please enquire about our value‑added packaging options.
05.Does bulk Opah have the same flavour and texture as premium graded Opah?
The standard of sprockets can be determined according to different application requirements. The difference between metric sprockets and sprockets built to ANSI standards is that they use different units of measurement for chain specifications.
06.How long can I store bulk Opah at -18°C, and does the bulk format affect shelf life?
Bulk Opah maintains its prime quality for 18‑24 months at a constant -18°C. The bulk format actually protects individual fish because the dense packing reduces air circulation and dehydration, slowing freezer burn. As long as the cartons remain sealed and undamaged, the fish retain their moisture and flavour for the full period. Once a carton is opened, we recommend using its contents within 3‑4 months and ensuring proper resealing of any unused fish.
