Big Eye Scad (scientific name: Selar crumenophthalmus), also widely known in global markets as Bigeye Scad, Goggle-eye Jack, or Purse-eyed Scad,is a premium pelagic fish species belonging to the Carangidae family. This species is distributed across tropical and subtropical waters worldwide, including the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. In China, it is abundantly found in the South China Sea, East China Sea, and Yellow Sea, making it a valuable commercial fishery resource.

Big Eye Scad typically grows to approximately 30 centimetres in length, with a slightly compressed, elongated body form and a distinctive yellow longitudinal stripe running along its flank. True to its name, the species is characterised by its remarkably large eyes, which account for its common trade designation. The fish possesses a well-developed adipose eyelid and a lateral line with 32 to 36 scutes. It inhabits the upper water column at depths ranging from 0 to 170 metres, frequently forming large schools in coastal waters, around offshore islands, and even in turbid reef areas. The species is predominantly nocturnal in feeding behaviour, preying on small shrimp, zooplankton, fish larvae, and benthic invertebrates.
